How to apply

If you're a foreign national who's lived in the UK for less than 12 months

You'll need to call us to begin your application. Make sure to check your eligibility first, and have your income, employment and outgoings information ready to share with our mortgage team.

If you're a foreign national who's lived in the UK for longer than 12 months

Prepare your details

You'll need your income, employment and outgoings information.

Get a decision in principle

This will give you a good idea of the amount you may be able to borrow. It's quick and easy and won't affect your credit score.

Apply for a mortgage

Once you’ve got your decision in principle, you can start your full mortgage application.

Who can apply?

If any of the applicants have certain rights to live in the UK

You can apply for a mortgage if any of the applicants have:

  • Settled or pre-settled status
  • Indefinite leave to remain
  • Indefinite leave to enter
  • A right of abode

In addition, all applicants must be aged 18 or over, and the property to be mortgaged must be habitable and provide suitable security.

Note: all documents and mortgage meetings will be in English.

If all applicants don't have certain rights to live in the UK

If all of the applicants are foreign nationals without settled or pre-settled status, indefinite leave to remain, indefinite leave to enter or a right of abode, then you can apply for a mortgage, as long as:

  • All applicants have lived in the UK for a minimum of 12 months at the point of application

OR

  • One applicant has a minimum income of GBP75,000 (excluding all variable income) or all applicants have a joint minimum income of GBP100,00 total (excluding variable income)

AND

  • There's a maximum LTV of 85 per cent 
  • The applicants have an acceptable visa type
  • The deposit is funded from the customer's own resources, ie personal savings

In addition, all applicants must be aged 18 or over, and the property to be mortgaged must be habitable and provide suitable security.

Note: all documents and mortgage meetings will be in English.

Representative example

A repayment mortgage of £175,000.00 payable over 33 years and 4 months initially on a fixed rate for 2 years at 5.54% and then on our current variable rate of 6.74% (variable) for the remaining 31 years and 4 months would require 24 monthly payments of £960.63 and 375 monthly payments of £1,095.31 plus one final payment of £1,099.52.

The total amount payable would be £435,190.89 made up of the loan amount plus interest of £259,895.89 and a solicitors fee of £295.

In this example, the overall cost for comparison is 6.8% APRC representative.

The above representative example is based on the highest APRC applicable to customers purchasing a property. Please note your actual costs and monthly repayments will vary.
